Throwback Posts: We Need Water

Have you ever noticed if you go a while without drinking enough water you start to feel bad? You haven’t got a lot of energy, your system just feels out of sorts, like something is missing? Water was given to us by God to revive us on the inside, to give life to our body, like it gives life to a flower or any other kind of plant. Our bodies need water. It is important to drink a lot of water. I am guilty of going through phases where I hardly drink enough water to talk about. I should learn by now not to do that, because every time I do I get headaches, lack energy and just start feeling bad.

Just as water is good for our body. Jesus living water is good for our spirit. What a perfect illustration God gave us. He created water, He designed our bodies to need water to live, to function right. God is the living water and He designed our spirit, the inside of us to need Him. We cannot live properly without Him. We cannot function right without Jesus in our lives. We must drink of Him daily.

I am reminded of the story in John chapter 4 of Jesus talking to the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well in the city of Sychar. Jesus asked the woman to give him a drink of water. Her reply was why was a Jew asking a Samaritan for water. Jesus replied, if you knew the gift of God and who it is asking you for a drink of water, you would be asking Him and he would give you living water. She replied, Sir, you don’t even have a bucket, and this well is deep, so where do you get this living water from? You’re not greater than your father Jacob are you? Jesus said Everyone who drinks this water is going to be thirsty again. But whoever drinks from the water that I give Him, will never thirst again. The water I give will become a well of water springing up within him for eternal life. Jesus went on to tell the woman about her life. And than he told her that a day was coming when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father wants people to worship Him. God is a spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

How do we receive this living water? We go to Jesus. How do we keep this living water stirred up inside of us? We worship God in spirit and in truth. We feed off of His word daily. We soak up the scripture inside our hearts and keep them their so they never depart. Just like I am guilty of neglecting to drink enough water, I am just as guilty, if not more so, for neglecting to drink daily the living water Jesus gives. When I neglect God’s living water. My spirit starts feeling dead. Have you ever noticed that? If you go even just one day without reading God’s Word, talking to Him, spending time with Him, you start to feel dead, and sad, just horrible inside. I don’t like that feeling. So how do you keep from feeling like that? Get in God’s Word, bath in his living water and never let go. If you stay emerged in Jesus, you’ll never thirst again. The only thirst you will have is for more and more of Him.
